My 10-Point Agenda for Teachers

1. Reliable Medical Cover or Medical Allowance

I will push for a comprehensive, dependable medical scheme that guarantees access to quality healthcare for teachers and their families. Where this fails, I will agitate for a meaningful medical allowance as an alternative.

2. Fair and Realistic Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBAs)

I will negotiate monetary CBAs that reflect current economic realities, factoring in inflation, cost of living, and the dignity of the teaching profession.

3. Harmonized & Predictable Promotions

I will advocate for:

• Automatic promotion after every 3 years
• Elimination of unnecessary interviews for classroom teachers
• Interviews strictly reserved for administrative positions

This will restore fairness, motivation, and career progression.

4. Autonomy for Junior Secondary Schools (JSS)

I will fight for full administrative autonomy of Junior Schools, ensuring:

• Clear leadership structures
• Independence in management
• Reduced conflict between primary and junior school systems

5. Expanded Allowances for Teachers

I will agitate for introduction and enhancement of allowances, including:

• Risk allowance
• Postgraduate allowance
• Acting allowance
• Special duty allowance
• Insecurity allowance
• Per diem allowance (as guided by SRC)

Teachers deserve compensation that reflects their work environment and qualifications.

6. Firm Position: NO Teacher Internship

I strongly oppose teacher internship programs that exploit trained professionals. I will push for full employment of qualified teachers with permanent and pensionable terms.

7. Constitutional Reforms in the Union

I will champion amendments to remove unfair and punitive clauses, including:

• The resignation clause
• Any provisions that undermine members’ rights and democracy

8. Full Funding of Branches

I will ensure strict adherence to the constitutional 65% funding to branches, as opposed to the current administration which remits less than 50%. This will enable:

• Strong grassroots operations
• Effective member support
• Vibrant teacher programs at the local level

9. Strengthening Teacher Welfare & Dignity

I will promote policies that protect teachers from:

• Harassment and intimidation
• Unfair transfers
• Administrative abuse

Teaching must remain a respected and protected profession.

10. Transparent, Accountable & People-Centered Leadership

I will uphold:

• Transparency in union operations
• Accountability to members
• Regular engagement and feedback from teachers
